What should be the swansong for the Nature Boy?

A friend of mine, "tna188", IMed me last night asking me questions about the Ric Flair situation, and what I thought was a legit way for the Nature Boy to end his wrestling career, as it appears, if the reports are right, that Wrestlemania 24 may be the end of this hall of fame legacy.

(Hey, be surprised, I was online during sunlight. It's rare for me being the vampire that I am.)

It's a damn good question, I think, and worthy of some input. So here goes.

Does Ric Flair deserve one more run at the top of the mountain, even at his age and with his skills?
Yes.

And now, the final question. Why?
Because, taking all of the garbage that is currently ongoing in wrestling right now, there are really only two men that are responsible for the popularity that wrestling had back in the 80's, and still does to this day in my HUMBLEST of opinions. Who are these two men?

Hulk Hogan is one, I hate to say it, but its the truth.

The other is Ric Flair.

Flair's single handed promotion and wrestling ability brought the National Wrestling Alliance from absolute nothing to a global powerhouse, spinning off WCW, and making WCW one hell of a difficult opponent for WWE to finally defeat during the Monday Night Wars.

Ric Flair was the catalyst in WCW. He was the soul of that company. And in the beginning of his run here in WWE, he was at the top of his game. Now, while creative may have dropped the ball as time progresses, and I think I can relate to how Flair would be feeling after having to job to Finlay's indian death lock, Flair still has the career and legacy that needs to be honored as he winds down.

I don't know who he'd beat. I don't know when. I don't know how. But one last time at the top of the mountain for a man who's made such an impact in wrestling as a whole. It's something that I feel has to be done.

But, wait. During the convo I had with my pal on the IMs, I came up with an idea. You know how Big Show is the only man to have held the WCW, WWE, and ECW titles, correct? What happens, hypothetically, if Ric Flair takes a walk over to ECW, and takes out the champion there? Then you have a legend with the distinction of being the only man on the planet to have held the WCW, WWE, NWA, AND ECW titles in his career.

I don't know about you, but I could see Ric Flair going to ECW and taking that belt from John Morrison if the reports are true that he returns and takes the belt from Punk. Hell, I could even see Punk putting Flair over because Punk is a student of the game, and I would not be surprised if he respects a man with the resume like Ric Flair. Since ECW now is not even remotely like the ECW of yesteryear, this idea has a lot of potential, and I wonder if you think it's a possibility, because frankly, I do.

I enjoy watching Ric Flair peform and always have and it's a damn shame that that piece of crap Vince is turning him into a fuckin joke as a jobber. In answer to your question, the answer is no, they won't give him a championship, they're burying him to much for that

I've been wanting a HBK vs Flair match at Mania 24. No gimmicks, no characters. Just two guys putting on a classic, old school match.

ECW ... if flair would bleed one more time for it, I would say a good hardcore submission match would be a good way to earn the gold he deserves. I'm for the idea as well, count me in!
