The New Palace Project Shout Out Chat Room

Another email....

this one may show some of the darker days of Flair's career... but it's a retro worth printing...

I didn't have such a great experience with Flair. Back in '89 the NWA came to Buffalo for 2 shows(best house shows I was ever at). Anyways throughout the night my friend and I were seeking autographs. It was great. Talked to Tom Zenk before the show for about an hour, he was awesome. Pillman signed on his way to the ring, Johnny Ace even signed while carrying his hobbled partner Shane Douglas back to ring. So after the show we sneek to the ramps that lead to the rear exit of the Aud. We are getting Gary Capetta's autograph and the Man walks by on his way out of the building. Decked in a full length fur coat, with two ladies at his side, there he was the "Naure Boy" himself. We decide to play it cool and keep a little distance(20 feet or so) between us and him. He stops at the door appearently waiting for his car to pick him. So we start moving in slowly, calling out his name, asking for him to sign. He turns around and says "I can have the cops down here like this"(while snapping his fingers in the air). After all these years I still can't figure out whether he was kidding, maybe we looked like dirty thugs from the neighborhood or if he was just a prick. The wierd thing is though, he still my favorite wrestler ever, even after he treated us like that, I think it actually made me believe in his character. Just a funny story I wanted to pass along. By the way I was 11 at the time, don't think I mentioned that. Glad your kids had a better experience than I did.
